A little more about tasks:

Tasks have deadlines!  When you view your tasks each will have a "deadline".  This is the day and time that you must submit the task by to be considered for the position.  Depending on the employer, you may still be able to submit your task, but they will be notified that you completed your task after the deadline.  So, be sure to pay attention to when your tasks are due, and finish them on time!

Different Types of Task Questions:  You may find many types of questions on a task.  These questions are not intended to "screen you out", actually they are meant to "screen you in".  By providing more information about yourself employers get to see the real you - not just a black and white resume.  Here are a few of the question types you may see on your tasks.

  • Behavioral:  These questions typically start with a "Tell us about a time when ..."  They are allow you to share your real life experiences and how you responded to them.

Here's a tip!  Follow the STAR method to answer behavioral questions

Situation - describe the situation in which the event took place
Task - Describe the task you were asked to complete
Action - Explain the action you took to complete the task or solve the problem

  • Situational:  These types of questions will present you with a hypothetical situation and ask you what you would do.  These questions are really designed to help the employer understand how you think and reason.  The STAR method works well with situational questions to help you organize your response into a cohesive story.

  • Video / Audio Response:  You may see a question that asks you to record a video or audio.  Many times these are not required but if you really want the job DO THE VIDEO!  Just by taking the video question you will set yourself apart from the crowd of other applicants.  Look at it as your time to shine!  Tip: If you're having difficulty on a video question be sure to read our article on video questions here...

  • Multiple Choice:  Yeah, we know pretty basic, but you're going to see a lot of these.  Be sure you read each answer carefully!

It's important that you complete your tasks.  Employers are looking for people who are willing to show more than their resume.  Answering tasks will no doubt help you get the job!
